State of Tokyo : 1st Assembly

On the 26th of May 2023, we had our inaugural community building event at Almost Perfect Tokyo. Carina Fushimi presented her fresh-off-the-press book, 'Bare Bones'. We also had a chat about State of Tokyo, looked back at past projects, and peeked into what's coming next. And the best of all, on top of making new friends, we met with the old ones too.

State of Tokyo 1st Assembly @ Almost Perfect Tokyo (2023-05-26)

The inaugural State of Tokyo Assembly had a simple, yet meaningful goal: to gather a crowd of like-minded people in one spot, with the intention of regenerating the social fabric that had been worn thin during the tough pandemic years. The assembly was our time to reclaim and rebuild ā€“ friendships, business relationships, creative collaborations - everything we needed to start anew.

Our secondary goal for this and future assemblies was to create enduring connections that bridged the gap between the digital and physical realms. Through this series of events, we aimed to connect our featured stories with real-life experiences.

However, the costs of running events like this can be substantial. If you'd like to support me, consider purchasing our merchandise - tote bags and T-shirts. These items, handcrafted using a screen-printing technique at my home studio, will be available in a dedicated online store very soon.

Special thanks to:

  • Carina Fushimi for making time in her busy schedule to share her story with us.

  • Alvaro from Nuevo.Tokyo for helping me improve the initial poster design and providing endless feedback.

  • Kosuke Owaki for assisting with the screen printing and arranging the post-event drinks at The Bridge Bar & Lounge, who were fantastic hosts.

  • Everyone that came along and those I forgot to mention: Alejandra, Lucille, Rhian, Craig Mod, Paul, Deby, David, Yukino, Mami, Totaro, Lino, Kurita, Adrian, Emma, Elly, Ryu, Heoā€¦
